Research and planning: First draft of film magazine
I have located my masthead at the top of the page and my film title at the bottom, and my picture in the center of the page with the sub stories at the right hand side of he page. The tag line is under the film name with the barcode located next to it and the date and price next to the picture.
Research and planning: analysis of film magazine
. The picture used is a long shot and this time the headline overlaps the picture and it looks like someones graffiti over the sub heading, and over the picture to make the magazine look more effective and appealing.
. There are also the main features of a magazine such as date, price and stories st=ituated at the bottom to show what else is included.
. This magazine is generally aimed at a wide range of audiances because of the genre and nature of the magazine.
. There are sub-stories included such as 'sex and spandex' to hook different audiences. And also to add to the effect of the magazine and how it attracts the audiances
Research and planning: analysis of film magazine
We can clearly tell the magazine above is of a Horror genre from the forms and conventions used. We can also tell due to the colors used and the lighting, this tells the audience straight away what the film advertised is. The joker is in the magazine as a medium long shot of him sat down, his head overlaps the main headline and the sub headings used are color coordinated to the joker and low key lighting is used. The joker has clothes on (typical outfit) and has lots of makeup and pain used on his face.Thursday, 18 November 2010
Planning and Research: group meeting
We are currently still working on the middle part of our teaser trailer.
Research and Planning: Micro element

In my group I am in charge of sound, editing and mise-en-scene, these are some of the ideas I have at the moment.
Sound
I am going to use some Non Diegetic sound such as mood music build up to add to the effect of my trailer and I am also going to use some Diegetic sound such as a thunder bolt and footsteps building up getting louder, and the sound of a train passing, and the ringtone of Mobile phone and also maybe some breathing. We also may need music (Non Diegitic) such as creepy background noises and sudden sounds to make the audience jump whilst creating the selected mood for our trailer.
Editing
We are going to use;
jump cuts
fast cuts
shot reverse shot
cuts
fade
Mise-en-scene
In our teaser trailer we are going to have a hoody, mobile phone and camera as our props. We also need low key lighting to set the mood of when she is being followed through the bridge. We are also going to use lots of pale makeup to make the stalker look ill, and gradually turn him in to a freak. The couple can wear casual clothing. We also need pictures of the girl and a digital camera. The girl will also wear makeup as normal, and the boyfriend will wear no makeup.

Research and Planning: convensons of a horror film poster

The conversions used in a film poster are;
Main heading- What the films called, eye catching, suit the genre
Tag line- Summing the film up without giving too much away
Main picture- Showing the main character, or something to represent the film
Colors- To suit the genre, add effect
Actors\Actresses names- To show the stars
Research and Planning: Film poster anaylasis

The genre of this film poster is horror, we can tell this from the image used and the colors used and the style of the 'm' (knife looking). From looking at the film poster, we can tell that the girl on the front cover is a victim and there's a killer involved who is maybe out to get her and there will probably be other victims. The title 'Scream' also hints to what the film is going to be about.

On this film poster, their is an image of a girl covering her mouth with the title located at the bottom of the poster, with the actor/actresses names under each of the letters. There is also a tag line at the top of the poster to tell the audience more about the film. The colors are mainly dark and creepy to build tension and there are no real props used as it is a close up on someones face.
We can tell from the genre and title/tag line f the poster that the film is aimed at adults ages 18+, they have used pictures, catchy tag lines to catch the audiences attention. This film poster represents a terrified victim who is probably a main character who looses their life, the fact that the poster has a victim on the front makes it look more scary.

Research and planning: production scheduele

This is my production schedule which I plan to follow, I created this with Jessica my team member. This will help me plan what I need to do throughout the duration of the creation of my film teaser trailer. It will also help with my time keeping so I dont fall behind and I will stay to date when creating my trailer.

Research and planning: sound tutorial
This was our first sound tutorial preparing us for when we insert sound in to our teaser trailer, it was especially improtant that i payed close attention as it is my main focus. First we used some termanology in class to analyse a trailer (The A team) then we wrote down what we found. After that we worked in two's and were each given a genre (ours was sci-fi) and we has to create music that went with that genre, ours (mine and jess's) turned out really good and sounded good too.
From this tutorial I have now learned more about sound termanology and also how to use music garage on the apple mac's which will help me when putting together my teaser trailer and add to the tension, mood and will also help the audiance identify what genre my film is better.

Research and Planning: Treatment
Girl and boy split, girl gets another boyfriend. Her ex gets jealous. He spy's on the couple whilst they're together and plans his revenge not being bothered about who he hurts along the way until he gets to grips with her new boyfriend.
The trailer
The scene starts off with a high angle shot looking down on the girl sending her boyfriend a text saying its over. When he receives the text he seems upset but he doesn't seem angry (close up of his phone/face). The scene then cuts to the new couple having a romantic dinner together, much to her old boyfriends surprise, he then begins to get angry ( long shot of couple, medium close up of him).

Research and Planning: My Preferred Audience

I conducted this questionnaire to gather information about who is going to be my target audience, from this I have found out what audience I need to aim my teaser trailer at. From my research I have found out that I have to aim my trailer at both males and females between the ages of 17-25 (approx). The trailer is going to be of a horror genre and is going to be 60 seconds long approximate, which is enough time to grab the audiences attention without giving too much of the plot away. I conducted my questionnaire and found out that people don't like to much of the plot to be included and they like to see lots of fast cutting and editing to be used and suspense and tension to build up the fear factor of the trailer. I also found that they would like to see a new idea of a horror film to be included and not just your average horror film, and also include mystery and be gripping (leave a lasting effect). From my results I also found that people don't want to see the ending because it will spoil the whole film.
The psychographics of my audience are students in college who are doing there a-levels and vocational courses who are interested in horror films. Theese people probably go watching horror films outside of college to socialize taking trips to the cinemas so I have to consider this whilst selecting my audience for my horror teaser trailer. My social economic groups that will be viewing my trailer will be groups D and E as they are students (may have part time jobs) who are in education still and the other social groups probably wont be interested in watching my trailer.

Research and Planning: Convensions Research task
I choose this teaser trailer because it doesn't give too much of the film away, whilst at the same time making the audience want to watch the film from what they have already seen. There is lots of fast cutting used which helps build up tension alongside sound effects which add to the scare factor, and you can also see the masks the killers are wearing (mise-en-scene)
I choose this trailer as one I didn't like because in my opinion it gives too much of the plot and setting away, and the trailer is too lengthy and is more like an actual trailer than a teaser trailer. There is also not much fast cutting used to build tensions however there is theme music included. The trailer also gives away too much of the mise-en-scene and the killers are seen to much so there is no mystery included.
Conventions of a teaser trailer:
Subtitles, actress and actors names, music (mood), costumes, locations, different shot types, dialogue from actors,
Conventions of my teaser trailer (horror):
Cinematography- fast cutting, panning e.c.t to grab the audiences attention, make them want to watch the film
Sound- theme music to build tension (films individual music) e.g saw, scream, the exorcist
Editing- when cutting to diffrent shots (wipe, fade) add different events
Mise-en-scene- masks, blood, knifes, e.c.t

Research and Planning: September Blog
This is my September blog where I discussed what I have been doing so far.
Research and Planning: Anaylasis of teaser trailer 2
Media language
The film saw has its own theme tune which is played throughout the clip, it builds up to create tension and fear. There is a lot of fast cutting included to make the clip seem more intense, there is also lots of pan and crab shots so the audience can see whats happening from all angles. There is also lots of close ups and long shots so we can see the shots from afar and also close up. The editing in the clip is very fast paced and jumpy to make the audience scared and therefore want to watch it more. There are lots of props and costumes used such as the machines (traps in saw) and the scary locations and costumes used. Throughout the clip there is also a voice over of jigsaw speaking.
Audience
The film saw is rated as an 18 so the teaser trailer is therefore aimed at adults, both males and females because both genders enjoy the horror genre. People who will want to watch the film will of probably of seen the previous saw films, and be interested in many more other horror films and watch them on a regular basis when watching films.
Representation
The film saw represents cereal killers and represents men as being stronger and more powerful than women because the killer is male. And the age of the killer is quite old so its ironic in showing that old people can still kill.
Narrative
The story is about a man who gets cancer and puts people who don't appreciate life in death traps that they must try to escape, many don't. The trailer shows some of the death traps and the victims and for the first time its in 3D, it also shows him the killer. It is structured with fast cutting from him to the death traps and the victims throughout. The story relates to the trailer and aspects of the plot are included in the trailer to represent the film.
Genre
The genre is horror. You can tell this because of the death traps and screaming victims and the sound of the killers voice included in the trailer. Mise en scene used in the trailer highlight this and give the genre away straight off. The cinematography used also gives the genre away because of the camera angles and special effects used.

Research and Planning: Audiance theories
Theory of media effect on audience, the term is used to describe interaction between the media and public belief offering the concept of people becoming affected by the information injected in to them.
Cultivation theory
George gerbner argues that the media cultivate attitudes and values which are already preset in a culture. He argued that television tends to cultivate middle of the rod political perspectives.
Desensitization theory
A link between violence in the media and violence in real life. It has been a subject of debate on the radio especially in the U.S, that on screen violence and real life violence has a strong relationship.
Copy cat theory
Mass media plays a crucial role in forming and reflecting public opinion, connecting the world to individuals and reproducing the self image of society.
Uses and gratification theory
That we take from the media what we want to absorb and we reject what we don't want when watching certain dramas/films and using this knowledge.

Reserch and Planning: Analysis of teaser trailer
Media language
There is a build up of sound taking place in the background to build tension and there is also a voice over of a girl whilst the trailer progresses. There is lots of fast cutting taking place throughout the trailer to build the action level up and to also make the trailer seem more scary in the long run. There is lots of fast cutting throughout the scene and jump cuts to shock the audience and add to he effect and make the audience want to watch the film. There are lots of props and costumes used in the scene and makeup such as fake blood, to make the clip seem more realistic.
Audience
The film is rated as a 15
Its genre is horror
So therefore it will attract people interested in horrors and supernatural thrillers, generally aimed at older audiences.
Representation
The film 'The ring' has a supernatural edge to it so supernatural spirits and people involved with them are being represented in this trailer, the film is generally aimed at older audiences because of its content. This film represents women as stronger than males, as the woman is the hero in it.
Narrative
The film is a supernatural horror which is about a videotape where if you watch it you will die in 7 days, some aspects of this are shown in the trailer, which give clues to the audience and make them want to watch it. Them main themes in the trailer are horror and fear of death, and the consequences of doing certain things. It is structured with a girl talking as a voice over the scene but it flashes back to her sometimes.
Genre
The genre of the film is horror, you can tell because of the actions, props, setting and theme of the trailer.

Research and Planning: Regulations
My films genre is horror, so the rating will definable be above a 12 at the least a 15 age rating. I would like my film to be rated a 15 because it wont be too gory and wont be sexually explicit however there will be some horror scenes included and some bad language (nothing to extreme) that wont be suitable for young people under the age of 15.
However as my film teaser trailer progresses if the content I decide on changes in any way I will consider moving my rating up to an 18 so its suitable for the appropriate audiences.

Romance films normally end happily and sometimes have an emotional effect on the audience. Films include; P.S I love you, Love Actually.
